Churdan library tells summer reading plans

The Churdan public library staff has announced plans for the 2021 summer reading program.

Story Time will be Wednesdays, June 9 – July 21, as follows:

  • 9:15-9:30 am –  Rubber Ducky program for children birth to 2 years old.
  • 9:30 -10:30 am – Story time activities will be geared for a preschool audience. Any child may attend, but activities will be simple.
  • 1:30-2:30 pm – Story time activities will be age appropriate for K-4th grade. Any child may attend, but activities will be a little more complex.
  • 2:45-3:05 pm – Reading Buddies for any age child. Reading Buddies is a special opportunity for young children to read out loud to an older child or adult. 

Special events are slated as follows:

  • Monday June 21, 10 am –  Jonathan May magic show. Fun for all ages
  • Saturday July 3, 7 pm – Ice Cream Social/ Town & Country Band
  • Wednesday July 21, 1:30 pm –  Reading Buddy party, open to those who participate in the reading buddy program.
  • Wednesday July 28:  Glidden pool field trip – Time to be announced. To qualify for the field trip, youngsters must check out at least 10 books and visit the library at least twice during the summer.
  • Friday July 30, 2 pm – Balloon animal workshop. Those younger than 8 years old must be accompanied by a teen or adult who can help them twist the balloons and tie the knots.
  • Friday July 30, 6 pm – Community Fun Night. A meal will be provided. There will be a variety of activities, as well as horseback rides and bubbles of all sizes.  The community is invited and free will donations for the evening’s activities will be accepted.

Special Things:  The library has Blank Park Zoo passes that are good anytime and staff is still waiting to hear if Iowa Cubs tickets will be available this year for the Homerun Reader Game in August.

  • June 9:  1:30 pm, Dawn Rudolph with live animals
  • June 16:  1:30 pm, Police with K-9 unit
  • June 23:  1:30 pm, Dan Towers conservation
  • June 30:  1:30 pm,  4-H animals
  • July 7:  1:30 pm, Hunting
  • July 14:  1:30 pm, Pet Show

Sponsors of the summer reading program are Communities 4 Children and Community Partnerships for Protecting Children neighborhood/Community Network Mini Grants and the Greene County supervisors.
